Mother Tongue Teacher/Study Guide

Jönköping Municipality is a large employer with hundreds of different job roles. We are growing in line with the municipality's development with more residents, more housing, and a larger offering. We are always on the lookout for new competencies - employees with diverse backgrounds and experiences, united by the common drive to create a better municipality to visit, live, work, and reside in.

Do you have knowledge and experience in pedagogical work?

Do you want to be part of developing Sweden's ninth largest municipality? Then you have a job to apply for.

Your new job

As a teacher with us, you will plan and conduct teaching in the mother tongue and collaborate with subject teachers to provide high-quality study guidance. You and your colleagues in the unit are driven to develop the mother tongue subject together. Collaboration with all schools is incredibly important, and as a mother tongue teacher, you will share mid-term assessments with mentors, guardians, and students according to our joint planning. The mother tongue subject will then be addressed in the development discussions held by the mentor. You will also assist in pedagogical investigations.

With us, we work on development and self-leadership within the unit, through active participation in meetings, theme weeks, and other activities that strengthen the unit.

We are looking for mother tongue teachers/study guides in the following languages:

  • Sorani Kurdish - 100% - fixed-term employment during the school year 2025-2026 with an immediate desired start

Welcome to us

The Mother Tongue and Reception Unit is located in the House of Knowledge at Kålgården in central Jönköping. The unit currently includes about 3,400 students studying the mother tongue subject and about 220 students receiving study guidance. Within the operation, there are currently about 100 teachers who together teach in more than 40 different languages. Teaching takes place in everything from individual instruction to larger groups, as well as groups receiving remote teaching. The reception unit receives all newly arrived students in the municipality and conducts the Swedish National Agency for Education's mapping and provides a brief introduction to the Swedish school. On-site at the House of Knowledge, there are administrators, managers, administrative developers/coordinators, and teachers working with mapping and remote teaching. The teachers are divided into 7 working groups with different focus areas: digitalization, mother tongue promotion, reality-based learning, didactics, grading and assessment, school collaboration, and language development.

Your qualifications

You are qualified and preferably a licensed mother tongue teacher and/or another teacher. You have good knowledge of the Swedish language in speech and writing, at least SVA 3, as the position may involve study guidance. We would like you to have previous experience as a mother tongue teacher. If you have not worked as a mother tongue teacher, you should have prior pedagogical experience. You have the relevant language as your mother tongue, but also knowledge of how the Swedish school system works and the values on which the school is based. A B driver's license is advantageous, as mother tongue teachers are mobile.

The qualities we consider important in our employees are personal maturity, the ability to collaborate, creativity, and since you will be working throughout the municipality, it is also important to have a holistic perspective.
